Mid-Season Training Day

Hone your skills or learn new ones!

This time round we are running a course for adult beginners as well as a training day for experienced fencers (adults and juniors).

Adult Beginners

Adult beginners will spend the morning learning the essential skills of fencing. Learn in a friendly group with other first-time fencers. What's to expect: safety and equipment, attacking and defending, and plenty of opportunities to try out the techniques and strategies you will learn about in real fencing matches! Fencing equipment is available to borrow at no extra charge!

Experienced Fencers (adults and juniors)

Experienced fencers will spend the afternoon on group training and sparring. The timetable will depend to some extent on who signs up, but I have lots of ideas to build on all the hard work everybody has done so far throughout the year.

Essential Information

Experienced fencers: please bring full fencing kit (let me know in advance if you need to borrow anything). Bring any refreshments you need for the day. Don't forget a water bottle! Please arrive promptly and be ready to start on time.

Please note: we need a minimum number of participants in order to make this viable, so it is really important to sign up as soon as possible!

Individual Lessons

One-to-One Coaching

One-to-one coaching gives you a personal, tailored lesson and is great for both beginners and experienced fencers.

An individual lesson.

Some people use individual lessons to brush up before a competition or to get back into the swing of things after a long break. Whatever you would like to get out of it, the lesson is built to suit you. Individual lessons are available at all our adult training sessions.

If you prefer to learn without the distractions of a busy club night then private coaching is for you. Your lesson can be held at a mutually convenient time and venue of your choice.

Private lessons are available for foil and sabre fencers as well as epeeists!

Individual lessons at the club are always 15 minutes long. Beginners and youngsters should normally stick to half hour lessons. Experienced fencers with a good fitness level may prefer one hour lessons.

If you would like to know more or would like to book a private lesson outside the club then please contact us to discuss the details.

Proficiency Awards

Recognising Your Progress

Proficiency awards are a great way to measure your achievements and get a sense of accomplishment as you progress in fencing.

Nationally Recognised

Our fencers follow the prestigious British Academy of Fencing proficiency award scheme. There are three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each award comes with a certificate and lapel badge.

Suitable for everyone

Awards are suitable for adults and children alike as they focus on real fencing techniques. Gain the confidence to fence with the wide range of opponents you will encounter as your progress.

Supporting material

We have produced a series of comprehensive work books to support our fencers working towards the awards. Use them to help you learn about the sport and enhance your practical skills as well.

What about beginners?

We have created our very own proficiency award designed to help you achieve a competent level in the basic elements of the sport, before progressing to the BAF Bronze award.
